Ode to an Empty Library Seat

O scarce Empty Seat, thou breath of student’s being,
thou unseen, thou not found, no matter how searched for,
whose unseen presence drives poor students
back to sleep, like a 9am lecture on a friday morning.

Thou glimpsed and then stolen by some agile sportsman,
please tell us, where hidden are you and at what time
we may ever find you. To sit in a common room is sweet,
but to sit in the library is sweeter. Thus, please, tell us!

And even though one day a fortunate will find you
you old piece of wood will stay cold and say:
“Your room is truth, truth is your room, that is all
Ye know in Leam, and all you need to know”.
